Sr.Bernadit Kalayathinal

Sr.Bernadit (Kochumariam) was born on 6 January, 1926 in the famous Kalayathinal family, Bharanganam, Pala diocese. Her parents were late Mr.Joseph and late Mrs.Aley. She joined SD convent, Chunangamvely in 1945; made her First Profession on 6 January, 1948 and Perpetual Profession on 6 June, 1954. Sr.Avitta CSST and Sr Barbara SD are her nieces. Sr.Bernadit served as a nurse in Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam Govt. Medical College Hospitals and Eranakulam General Hospital. After retirement she served in Chunangamvely, Mercy Home; Chethipuzha, Kanjirapally, and Madras. She always gave special attention to the poor and the destitute, the needy and down trodden in her service. Her motherly affection and sisterly concern is praiseworthy. She was very zealous, devoted, hard working and a gentle mother. Hers is a life of mortification and enjoyed inseparable companionship of Jesus. Getting up early in the morning and doing intercessoryprayer was a daily practice for her. The last ten years of her life, she spent at the Provincial House, Chethipuzha. When she knew that shewas terminally ill, she surrendered herself to her beloved Spouse, Jesus. She received the Sacrament of the Sick and on 25 January, 2002, at 3.00am, she went to her heavenly abode for eternal reward.
